Adoption of National Fire Standards for Furnishings
Both consumers and product manufacturers are concerned with the fire safety of mattresses and upholstered furniture. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) addresses the safety of these and other consumer products. CPSC has worked for more than 10 years now in developing cigarette smoldering and open flame resistance tests for furnishings. CPI has for several years been advocating the adoption of effective and scientifically-based flammability tests by a government authority to help evaluate these products.
